Cobalt has been used to make blue glass and ceramics for thousands of years by cultures across the world, including in China, Mesopotamia, and Egypt. The pigment we know today as Cobalt Blue (PB28) was synthesised in 1802 by Louis Jacques Thénard, who described it as ‘a blue colour as beautiful as Ultramarine'.
