Zhongnanhai, a lake west of the Forbidden City, was originally named Taiyechi (太液池), meaning "pond of the immortals." Ancient Chinese dynasties had a tradition of digging large ponds in palace gardens and naming them Taiyechi.

Trump: “Good. I like it.” Zhongnanhai is sometimes thought of as the Chinese White House but is not a prime venue for diplomatic visits, Associated Press reported. So perhaps Xi’s invitation to the president was to “extend a personal touch to a U.S. leader who appreciates big gestures,” the wire service wrote.
