NASA announces three new Moon missions as part of its Moon Base program, aiming to establish a permanent human presence on the lunar surface by 2026.
NASA announced which two companies would be tasked to build lunar rovers for its future moon base as well as the company that will fly them there among other plans during an event from its Washington headquarters Tuesday.
NASA has awarded Moon Base rover and lunar vehicle contracts to Astrolab, Lunar Outpost, Blue Origin and Firefly Aerospace.
"This is when living and working on the Moon becomes a reality," NASA said about "humanity’s first lunar outpost."
Just weeks after the success of the Artemis II mission, NASA is rolling out its ambitious plan to establish a permanent base on the surface of the moon.
"Artemis 2 proved that NASA is ready for the next step."
