One person died and over 30 people, mostly FDNY members, were hurt in an explosion and fire at a Staten Island shipyard Friday.

The blast occurred shortly after firefighters arrived to battle the blaze, and more than 30 people were injured, mostly firefighters or EMS, officials said.

One person has died after a fire and two explosions Friday at a New York City shipyard, officials say.

A fire broke out at Chalmette Refining Friday afternoon after residents reported hearing a large explosion, according to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office. The fire was under control as of around 2 p.m., and no injuries were reported, John Rahaim, director of St. Bernard Homeland Security, said.

An explosion occurred about 45 minutes after the fire broke out. The FDNY said there was a fire in the basement of a small metal structure behind shipping docks, with two workers trapped.
